Ukrainian forces have begun using interceptor drones equipped with net launchers to bring down Russian reconnaissance quadcopters on the battlefield.

The manufacturer Ptashka Drones shared videos of these interceptions, demonstrating the effectiveness of Ukrainian drones in “hunting” quadcopters used by the enemy for fire adjustment, reconnaissance, and bomb deployment.
This type of interception is carried out with conventional drones, like Mavic and Autel, equipped with the “Net Comet” system. The device includes a net module that tangles the target drone’s propellers, disabling it. Once neutralized, the Russian drone either falls to the ground or is controlled mid-air by the interceptor drone.
Ptashka Drones, the Ukrainian company behind this system, states that the net module weighs only 373 grams, considerably lighter than an infantry grenade, allowing it to be installed on almost any drone. Thanks to the reusability of the interceptor drones, the interception cost has been reduced to about 1200 hryvnias, equivalent to the price of a cartridge load.
This technological advancement strengthens Ukraine’s defense capabilities, improving drone interception efficiency and lowering combat costs while hampering Russian forces’ reconnaissance and aerial attack operations.
